We have just submitted an application on behalf of Selkirk Regeneration, to fully refurbish the socially + culturally significant Category B listed monuments of literary great Sir Walter Scott + explorer Mungo Park within Selkirk town centre.

Conservation projects have many challenges, today gave the 1st clear assessment of this beautiful late 19th century category C listed property. Phased Conservation of Category A Westgate Hall Approved

We have recently submitted an application to regenerate the listed Town Arms public house in Selkirk. The application includes a detailed conservation report, focusing on the categorising + retention of high quality features whilst focusing on the historic use + layout of the overall property. This is one of a number of commercial projects we are involved with including the successful approvals for The Gordon Arms, Yarrow along with the Whip + Saddle, Duns.

Swinside Holiday Accommodation approved at LRB

We’re over the moon that our Swinside Holiday accommodation project was unanimously approved with Full Planning Approval at the local authority “Local Review Body” meeting. Originally refused by the Planning Officer due to its remote location, we along with Ferguson Planning focused on the reasoning + gained the full approval by the LRB.

SDA Listed in top 100 Architectural in Scotland

Great news!! We’re listed in the Urban Realm “top 100 practice in Scotland” for a 5th consecutive year. Rowlands Gill wins LABC Northern Award

We have just received the great news that out Rowlands Gill project in Newcastle has won the “Best Individual Home” in the Northern Region in the LABC Building Excellence Awards! Off we go to the national finals in January!! The new building was created within a conservation area surrounded by red brick Victorian villas. Our Ashiestiel project takes the form of a large scale extension to an existing cottage with amazing views of the tweed valley + beyond. The extension takes a traditional form with recessed balcony to the 1st floor ensuring solar control + low impact on the surrounding area. It’s been a busy time in the studio, here are visualizations of our swinside project which has just been submitted for planning.
A proposed holiday let unit which will be created as a forced earth dwelling partly formed by reclaimed shipping containers, with hidden roof terrace. Great tapestry of Scotland

It’s brilliant to at last share the news of something a little different, I was asked to design the Selkirk panel on the welcome tapestry at the #greattapestryofscotland here’s a few development sketches along with the finished article expertly stitched by Anne Riddell, it depicts a few Selkirk landmarks, see if you can spot them! We are looking for someone to join our team on a full time basis.
Any applicant should have a minimum of 4 years experience in domestic architectural projects, be driven + able to work as an active part of a team. The projects you will work on will be varied + exciting with detailing + quality paramount.

We are offering an exciting opportunity for someone to develop + grow their knowledge within a design led practice.

Salary will be dependant on experience + qualifications including pension.

Skills should include:
Autocad (essential)
Focus on detailing
3D visualisation (desirable)

Our own house internal finishes are moving forward, the herringbone floor + anthracite windows are now complimented by a continual oak frame to the window, sleeping dog is optional!

Our STEM Hub extension to Borders College’s Hawick campus has won the “Highly Commended” award in the Small to Medium Size Project category at the AT2020 awards. The judges commented “Clever detailing with attention to detail is a stand-out for this formation of a STEM Learning Hub”

Parkhead Planning Approved

We have just received the great news that our Parkhead project has received Planning Approval.
The project includes a frameless glazed link forming the transition between the Victorian cottage + submerged living pod, built into the existing bank.
A mixture of glazing, whinstone, zinc + grass roof will allow the contemporary to compliment the traditional vernacular.

Our linthill project is currently being pre-planned to be started after lockdown is relaxed. The mix of materials + angled structure will be an amazing design when finished
